I'm a psychologist, parenting and leadership coach, and the owner of the multi-site group paediatric psychology practice, Hopscotch & Harmony.

I’m also a co-parent and mother of three children (8, 12 and 15) who are very different from each other and require different things from me in order to meet their needs. This requires flexibility and creativity to parent them in the way they need to be parented.

I'm here with you in the trenches and have my fair share of good and bad days, just like you. In order to keep myself regulated, I lean heavily on the tools I share with you in this program. I am then in a better position to help my child regulate their emotions. I invite you to learn these strategies so you can do the same.

The 5 Pillars of the

Calm + Connected Parent

 

This comprehensive online course teaches you the 5 essential pillars that are the foundation of effective parenting of children with big feelings and concerning behaviour. If one of these pillars falters, the strength of the parent-child relationship will be shaky.

The good news is, every parent can become more skilled in each area. 

 

PILLAR 1

Connection

 

Put aside behaviour concerns and your frustrations, and first learn how to see your child with curiosity and without judgement. This is one of the foundational steps in creating more calm and connection in your relationship before you even think about correcting behaviour and teaching skills.

In this module you’ll learn: 

  • How to connect to who YOU are outside the role of parent. 
  • Develop a connection plan to make time together with your child count. 
  • Learn the number one parenting tool to improve parent-child relationships. 
PILLAR 2

Regulate

 

The most important skill you never learnt is to understand your own nervous system so you stay regulated under stress instead of snapping and yelling. Knowing how to stay regulated is a crucial skill before you can effectively support your child with their distress, and it prevents situations escalating. 

In this module you’ll learn:

  • How your nervous system impacts your feelings and emotions. 
  • To map your emotional states so you have a clear understanding of your parenting triggers and default reactions. 
  • All about your triggers and how to respond to them mindfully and with compassion.
PILLAR 3

Accept

 

Being able to acknowledge and accept your child's unique differences - and see the things that make them who they are - is the greatest gift you can give them. 

In this module you’ll learn:

  • To develop an awareness of your child's underlying needs to understand the root cause of the behaviour that challenges you. 
  • Recognise two types of behaviour you need to be able to differentiate.
  • Explore your child's profile of needs, wants and drives. Accepting the child you have and not the one you thought you would have.
PILLAR 4

Empower

 

Knowing how to engage in collaborative problem solving effectively, will get yours and your child’s needs met much faster. The sample conversation starters are really helpful if you're unsure where to start. 

In this module you’ll learn:

  • Communication strategies that promote respectful problem solving and the 5 steps of emotion coaching. 
  • Co-regulation: how to do this effectively
  • Boundaries: how to set firm but fair boundaries and troubleshooting.
  • How to communicate in a way that your child will be receptive to.
PILLAR 5

Self-Care

 

You show up for others all the time, but when things get hard do you show up for yourself? We parents of kids with big feelings can carry a lot of shame, blame and guilt, especially if we feel like we're not doing a ‘good enough’ job helping them. In Pillar 5 we learn how to actively counter these judgements of ourselves through self-compassion practices. This is a juicy module and you don’t want to skip over it!

In this module we’ll cover:

  • Becoming your own best friend and treating yourself with kindness
  • Understanding and managing stress and big worries
  • How to be more self-compassionate during difficult times
  • How to identify, prevent and manage burnout
  • Grounding and mindfulness techniques
  • Audio downloads - mindfulness practices and meditations
